The registration end date for HAB Level 1 and 2 Bakery NVQs is 31 March 2008. Candidates that are registered for these qualifications must complete their NVQ, and centres must apply to HAB for their certificate, prior to the certification end dates listed on the HAB Qualification List
The current awards will be replaced on 1 April 2008. HAB have made the decision not to offer the revised qualifications, preferring to concentrate on our specialist areas within Hospitality and Cleaning. However, HAB centres will be able to apply for fast track approval to offer the new Bakery NVQs through their City & Guilds Regional Office at no additional charge.
Download and complete the City & Guilds Bakery NVQ Fast Track Form and submit to your Regional Office. Click here for guidance on completing the form.

Some of the 'What you must know' knowledge statements were missing from the original National Occupational Standards for unit HS11.3. As a result, the missing knowledge statements were omitted from the HAB Unit Record, however they were covered by questions in the City & Guilds question and answer assessment documents. This has now been addressed and the missing knowledge statements have been inserted into HAB Unit Records.

| Dear Colleague,
As you know we have been discussing with the LSC the continued funding for NVQs in food prep and cooking and food and drink service at level 1. The attached briefing note sets out the outcome of those discussions, which will allow its continuation, until the implementation of the Sector Qualifications Strategy (SQS).
The SQS provides an important opportunity to ensure that the qualifications available for the sector are those that meet the needs of sector employers. Obviously, given its importance it is critical that as many employers and learning providers feed in to that consultation and influence its outcome. To get involved email sqs@people1st.co.uk . |

HAB has produced mapping documents, which identify matching evidence required for the following 2005 Hospitality Units:
2G3 - Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food
2G4 - Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food
Document 1 should be used for candidates who have completed unit 2G3 and are preparing to start unit 2G4
Document 2 should be used for candidates who have completed unit 2G4 and are preparing to start unit 2G3
IMPORTANT NOTE: Mapping for the ‘What you must know’ (WYMK) criteria has not been included in these documents. Candidates wishing to achieve units 2G3 and 2G4, who were registered after the 2006 Hospitality Assessment Strategy was introduced, must be tested on the WYMK statements for each unit in its entirety.
Evidence for the WYMK criteria can only be mapped for candidates that were registered prior to the introduction of the 2006 Hospitality Assessment Strategy. If you would like the WYMK mapping document for candidates registered before this time, please email acarey@hab.org.uk. |

Changes have recently been made to the Hospitality and Catering Assessment Strategy. The main change is that the ‘What you must know’ (underpinning knowledge) criteria for Level 2 & 3 NVQs must now be tested under supervised conditions and kept securely from candidates prior to their use.
From September 2006, HAB will be removing the 'What you must know' (WYMK) questions from the Level 2 & 3 Unit Records. The WYMK statements from the National Occupational Standards will be added to each unit, so that candidates understand the requirements.
New questions and answers, which meet the revised criteria are now available to HAB centres. To obtain these, you will need to complete the relevant form (see below) and return it to the HAB Customer Service Team. HAB will then provide you with an access code for the questions and sample answers via HABZone. Please note that these questions and answers must be kept in a secure environment.

Please click here for a statement made by People 1st on the 13th July re the Modern Apprenticeship.
HAB will be issuing a statement to centres shortly about how this will affect them. At the same time we will issue the final version of the new assessment strategy.
One criteria within this new strategy is that People1st will need to approve materials and products, produced by commercial organisations to be used by Hospitality and catering centres. One such organization is Award Learning Services (TestVQ.) With this in mind ALS have had a meeting with People1st to get an indication of what they need to do for ALL awarding bodies to be able to work with them. People1st have informed City and Guilds/HAB that a mapping exercise will be completed by the end of August 2006 and ALS (TEST VQ will be sending a letter to centres shortly confirming this). With this in mind centres will be able to continue to use ALS from September onwards following approval from People1st. |

HAB undertook a mapping exercise to help candidates who have successfully completed a generic unit under the old framework and are now undertaking a qualification with the new version of the unit.
While there was some limited coverage from old to new in other generic units, those listed below were the only ones where substantial direct overlaps occurred. Therefore these units are the only ones included within the mapping document.
1G1 : Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
1G2 : Maintain and deal with payments |
